I have a Dell 8300 and plan to upgrade the memory to 1GB using 2 512K 184 pin PC3200 memory modules?
There are 4 memory slots I will remove the existing 2 128k ram chips and replace with the 2 512K ram chips can I still use the two 128K ram modules which I removed in the other 2 slots making a total of 1.280 GB or is that not allowed. I am running XP windows
Yes, it can work,
But if ur getting 2 faster sticks of ram, u may be better off leaving them out . It will slow down ur newer, faster RAM.
If ur getting RAM that is the same speed, ur all set to use the old RAM as well.
While that answers ur question, what recommend even more is to get a total of 2GB of RAM all running at the same speed. You will notice the biggest increase in your computer performance at this point.
If you want to just stick to the 1,28GB, that's fine. It's ur choice.
Check Ebay for Modules Used products. Ebay can be a great resource for finding most anything you desire!
