DIY programmer for Microchip PIC?
I am a some what experienced electronics hobbyist. I want to use Microchip PIC series of micro-controllers with me. These includes several 12F series, 16F series, 18F series and even 30F ones. I want a programmer which can directly burn hex files to any of these devices. I don't want any ICSP type which uses boot loaders because for burning a boot loader I would need another programmer. What I need is a circuit which can actually burn the boot loader itself. I don't care much about the 30F series ones. All I need is a DIY circuit which can program the 18F, 16F and 12F ones. Can any one please give a link to some web sites having such a programmer. I can't buy the SuperPRO or any such thing as they are too costly. I need to do the circuit myself.
You can get some uC's with preprogrammed bootloaders.
There are many schematics available for PIC's, you will find that many require either a serial or parallel port. Both of these ports are getting harder to find on PC's
Microchip sells the PICkit 2 for $50 or $35. It is an ISP Programmer/Debugger. I don't think that you will save much more with a DIY programmer
Check Ebay for Programmer Microchip products. Ebay can be a great resource for finding most anything you desire!
