How do you step 210V down to less current AND Voltage?
I know transformers can step down voltage, but then the current goes up. Or step up the voltage, then current goes down My question is, in the small devices we use, how do they decrease both the current and the voltage?
AC Voltage can be decreased by the use of transformers, resistive Voltage dividers or series dropping resistors but the current drawn by any electrical device is determined by the Voltage applied across the device divided by the electrical impedance of the device. Consequently the only way to lower current other than lowering the Voltage is to increase the impedance of the electrical device which lowers the power capabilities of the device. Small low power electrical devices have a higher impedance than larger high power devices that operate off the same value Voltage therefore they draw less current if we assume they both have the same efficiency.
